Westchester Neighborhood School has received a $100,000 grant from the Weingart Foundation to support renovation of the school’s new facility in the Del Rey area near Playa Vista.

Westchester Neighborhood School — a private independent school offering kindergarten through eighth grade — will relocate later this year north of Jefferson Boulevard.

The school will celebrate its 25th anniversary at the new location.

“We are extremely grateful to the Weingart Foundation for this grant and for all that it does to support education and other critical issues in the region,” said Brenda Parker, school head.

The new academic building will provide classroom and office space to accommodate the school’s growing enrollment, she said.

The 50,000-square-foot building will house an indoor gymnasium, a new science lab and state-of-the-art technology to facilitate learning, information sharing, and communication.

School officials said the school’s current 22,000-square-foot building near Los Angeles International Airport hasn’t allowed the school to achieve its educational goals.

“Our new home will more than double the size of our current facility and offer us greater flexibility to serve a larger group of students, expand our programs, and offer new amenities,” said Parker.
