A 17-year-old male was shot to death in an apartment in the 7200 block of Sepulveda Boulevard in Westchester, at about 11:50 p.m. Friday, September 24th.

The victim — who was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect — was shot when the two struggled for control of a rifle, resulting in the firearm discharging, a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) spokesman alleged.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he died as a result of the injury.

The suspect, who has been identified as 25-year-old Damien Patrick Holland, was arrested and booked for murder, the LAPD reported.

The rifle has been recovered.

LAPD Pacific Division detective Mike Depasquale said there is a possibility the murder charge will be dropped.

“There is a self-defense issue here,” said Depasquale.

“The suspect was in his home when the victim and a group of friends came over to allegedly fight,” said Depasquale.
