The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners awarded a $827,800 contract for residential soundproofing near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Professional Building Contractors.

The contract will cover sound insulation modifications on 51 condominium residential units of the Briarcliff condominium complex.

The contract brings the total number of homes that have been completed or are in the process of soundproofing construction near LAX to 3,853 homes.

The residences will be retrofitted with dual-paned windows, solid-core doors, attic insulation and other necessary modifications.

The LAX noise mitigation program includes residences in Westchester, Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles.

Those communities have a recorded community noise equivalency level of 65 decibels or higher.

Los Angeles World Airports, which operates LAX and three other local airports, administers the noise mitigation program.

Soundproofed model homes in Playa del Rey and South Los Angeles are open to visitors by appointment.
