As part of the ongoing celebration of the Santa Monica Pier’s centennial anniversary, the historic La Monica Ballroom will be recreated with former ballroom dancers during the Twilight Dance Series event Thursday, July 23rd.

The original experience of the historic La Monica Ballroom, the largest ballroom in the world when it was built 85 years ago, will be recreated on the Santa Monica Pier with a large dance floor and stage that will host Johnny Vana & The Big Band Alumni and famed swing band, the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

The dance celebration will feature alumni who had actually danced in the La Monica Ballroom and expert dance instructors that will provide free lessons to anyone who wants to experience what La Monica was like in its heyday.

Following the Big Band sounds of Johnny Vana, the Squirrel Nut Zippers will bring 85 years of history into the present with their modern take on swing.

La Monica Ballroom Redux is one of a series of events celebrating the Santa Monica Pier’s centennial on September 9th.

The Twilight Dance Series performance is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, July 23rd on the pier.
