Art for a Better World
Affair of the Arts raises awareness in Culver City
Think of it as a farmers market for art.
More than 50 artists gather this weekend in Downtown Culver City for the 6th annual Affair of the Arts — a marketplace of painters, sculptors, ceramicists, woodworkers, jewelers and photographers that celebrates art as a potential catalyst for changing the world.
Putting that theory into practice, a portion of sales proceeds goes to The Peace Project, a nonprofit helping to rehabilitate the disabled poor in Sierra Leone and the Philippines.
Affair of the Arts also “brings people together around art, and it raises awareness of our collective ability to create a more peaceful world,” says The Peace Project founder Lisa Shultz. She’s also founder of The Whole 9, the collaborative online arts collective that’s hosting the event.
The artists are setting up in the plaza outside the Culver Hotel, with live music to accompany throughout the weekend.
