Santa Monica College adjunct art professor Robin Mitchell is a recipient of the California Community Foundation 2006 Fellowships for Visual Artists award, which is endowed by the J. Paul Getty Trust.
Mitchell is one of eight mid-career artists to receive the award, which comes with $20,000 that she can use as she pleases to advance her art making.
She is a Santa Monica resident, has taught at the college for more than eight years and had her work exhibited throughout the world and included in articles and books, according to the college.
In addition, she has won several honors, including a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowship for Painting, a City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department visual artist grant and a visual artists grant from the “Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation.”
Mitchell received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in fine arts from the California Institute of the Arts.
