The Boys & Girls Club of Venice is hosting a weekend dedicated to the arts, beginning Friday, January 15th through Monday, January 18th.

Over 300 pieces of art from donors, local artists and club members will be on display at the club, 2232 Lincoln Blvd., Venice.

The opening reception and judging for the club’s national art competition will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. January 15th in the gymnasium.

“The arts are severely underfunded in our public schools,” said Erikk Aldridge, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice. “This year, we decided to honor the artistry of Dr. (Martin Luther) King’s words, and the nation’s day of service by opening our doors to highlight the wonderful spirit of the arts in Venice.”

The event will hopefully raise the $5,000 needed in gap funding to maintain the current programs, he said.

Art will remain on display with several hundred pieces available for purchase from noon to 2 p.m. January 16th and 17th and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. January 18th.
