Lora Schlesinger Gallery in Santa Monica is presenting The Western Wall, a new series of paintings by artist Laura Lasworth, beginning Saturday, February 13th through March 27th.
This exhibition of 18 paintings was inaugurated at the Seattle Pacific Art Center in December. The show will open with an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m. February 13th at the gallery, 2525 Michigan Ave. T3, Santa Monica.
While the Western Wall in Jerusalem is a remnant of the ancient Temple and a place of prayer, Lasworth’s own “western wall” was a vertical expanse of golden brick and clear glass separating her home space from the vastness of Puget Sound in Washington, a gallery spokesperson says. The views shown in the exhibit’s works are simultaneously open vistas and obdurate presence.
Lasworth graduated from the California Arts Institute in Valencia. She now works and resides in Washington, where she currently serves as professor at the Seattle Pacific Art Center.
She has received numerous awards, including the California Art Council Artists Fellowship and the Art Center College for Design Faculty Enrichment Grant. Her works can be found in many public and private collections, including the Long Beach Museum of Art.
