Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica volunteer Francis “Fran” Kirkwood, athletic director at Seven Arrows Elementary School in Pacific Palisades, was recently recognized by the school with the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation awards outstanding community volunteers with the award to recognize their dedication and their work as positive role models. Council members said they honored Kirkwood for his dedication as a volunteer at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica.
“The students at Seven Arrows Elementary School adore our athletic director, Mr. Kirkwood,” said Margarita Pagliai, head of Seven Arrows. “Fran has been instrumental in the vision and implementation of our physical education program, ensuring quality and safety for a number of key sports. We are so proud of Fran’s award. He truly deserves this recognition and we are fortunate to have him on staff at Seven Arrows.”
For over 18 years, Kirkwood has fostered growth and achievement in children’s sports in various capacities, including at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica, school officials said. He has challenged students in the areas of basketball, soccer and other sports, and focuses on helping them become stronger, more self-confident athletes, officials said.
Kirkwood also lends a hand whenever support is needed on campus, from collecting arriving students to setting up for special events, Seven Arrows officials said.
