The Westchester Babe Ruth League all-star team of 13-year-old players recently captured championship trophies at both the District 2 Tournament and the Southern California Tournament.
The team did not lose a game in either tournament.
After defeating Culver City 9-4 and El Segundo 5-1 earlier in the District 2 Tournament, the Westchester team again defeated Culver City with a dominating 20-2 victory to win the tournament championship.
Ben McKendall blasted two home runs and Mike Pagan added another home run to help Westchester to the blowout victory over Culver City in the District 2 final. Eric Gronhagan was the winning pitcher.
Westchester then advanced to the Southern California Tournament in Simi Valley, where the team earned a 13-0 shutout victory over El Centro and a 15-4 win over La Crescenta in the early rounds. In the tournament championship game, Westchester again defeated La Crescenta 10-3 to take home the title July 17th.
McKendall hit another home run to help lead his team to the Southern California crown. T.J. Buckley was the winning pitcher.
The Westchester team will next represent Southern California in the Pacific Southwest regional tournament in Richfield, Utah, beginning Thursday, July 31st. The winner will advance to the Babe Ruth League World Series in Jamestown, New York.
