In high school baseball games:

The Westchester High School Comets suffered their fifth consecutive Western League loss in a 4-1 defeat to host University High School Monday, April 14th.

The two teams were tied 1-1 after three innings but University scored in both the fourth and fifth innings to take the victory.

Brian Henderson led the Comets with two hits and one RBI (run batted in).

The Comets (6-11, 2-5) will play a second game against visiting University at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 17th.

The Venice High School Gondoliers scored three runs in the eighth inning to earn a 4-1 Western League victory over host Hamilton High School Monday, April 14th.

The Gondos (7-14, 4-3) were first on the scoreboard with a run in the second inning but Hamilton picked up a run in the third to tie the game. The two teams remained scoreless for the remainder of regulation, sending the game into extra innings.

Venice will next face rival Westchester High in a visiting league game at 3 p.m. Monday, April 21st.

The Santa Monica High School Vikings lost 5-2 to Palos Verdes High School in the Redondo Tournament Saturday, April 12th.

After Palos Verdes scored four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead, the Vikings scored two runs in the fourth but it was not enough to stop Palos Verdes. Santa Monica finished with five hits to nine for Palos Verdes.

The Vikings (7-10, 2-0) will next face host Inglewood High in an Ocean League game at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 17th.

The St. Monica High School Mariners suffered their fifth consecutive loss in a 5-2 Del Rey League loss to host St. Paul High School Tuesday, April 15th.

The Mariners (3-13-1, 0-7) will have a chance to avenge the loss in a second game against visiting St. Paul at 3 p.m. Friday, April 18th.

In high school softball games:

The host Westchester High School Comets scored a run in the seventh inning to hand the rival Venice High School Gondoliers their first Western League loss this season, 5-4, Thursday, April 10th.

It was Venice’s first loss in 11 games. The Gondos scored two runs in the third inning and another two runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead, but Westchester (9-5, 7-1) fought back to tie the game with three runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth.

Despite the loss, Venice outhit Westchester 11-7. Danielle Mestas pitched a complete game and finished with eight strikeouts for Venice (13-3-1, 6-1).

Venice will next face host Fairfax High in a league game at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 17th.

Westchester will play at Hamilton High in a league game at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 17th.

The St. Monica High School Mariners cruised to a 7-0 shutout victory over the host St. Bernard High School Vikings in a Camino Real League game Thursday, April 10th.

St. Monica (7-7, 2-0) will next face host Cantwell-Sacred Heart High in a league game at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 17th. St. Bernard (1-7, 0-2) will face host Windward High in a non-league game at 4 p.m. Friday, April 18th.
