In high school baseball games:
The Westchester High School Comets cruised to a dominating 13-3 victory over Inglewood High School in a non-Western League game Saturday, March 29th.
The victory came after the Comets (6-6, 2-0) earned back-to-back victories over Fairfax High School to start league play.
Westchester will next play at Hamilton High in a league game at 3 p.m. Monday, April 7th.
The Venice High School Gondoliers grabbed their first Western League victory of the season with a 9-5 win over visiting University High School Monday, March 31st.
The Gondoliers (4-13, 1-2) scored three runs in the first two innings and added five more runs in the fifth, giving them a cushion that was good enough to hold off a five-run charge by University in the seventh inning.
Dante Calvelli led the Gondos with two hits and four runs batted in (RBIs). Nick Losman and Sam Ramos each added two hits. Zack Mandell threw eight strikeouts in five innings pitched for Venice.
The Gondos will play a second game at University at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 3rd.
Santa Monica High School sailed to a 13-0 blowout victory over visiting Hawthorne High School in its Ocean League opener Tuesday, April 1st.
The Vikings (5-9, 1-0) picked up three runs in the first two innings and added five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away.
Santa Monica outhit Hawthorne 11-4 in the game.
The Vikings are next scheduled to play a second league game against host Hawthorne at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 3rd.
After earning four consecutive victories in the St. Paul Easter Tournament, the St. Bernard High School Vikings were defeated 11-2 by visiting Mary Star of the Sea High School in a Camino Real League game Tuesday, April 1st.
Mary Star jumped out to a 9-0 lead before the Vikings were able to score their only two runs of the game in the fifth inning. The Vikings (6-8, 1-3) finished with three hits to 13 for Mary Star.
The Vikings will next host Cantwell-Sacred Heart High in a league game at 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 4th.
In high school softball games:
The Venice High School Gondoliers earned their eighth consecutive victory with a dominating 21-1 win over L.A. CES in a Western League game Monday, March 31st.
The victory keeps Venice in first place in the league standings with an undefeated league record.
Danielle Mestas led the Gondos with three hits, including two home runs, and seven RBIs. Jamie Kenyon finished with four strikeouts in four innings pitched.
The Gondos will next host Hamilton High in a league game at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 3rd.
The Westchester High School Comets soared to a 10-0 blowout victory over visiting Hamilton High School in a Western League game Thursday, March 27th.
The Comets scored runs in each of the first three innings and added two more runs in the fifth on their way to the shutout. Westchester (5-5, 3-1) tallied 11 hits in the game and limited Hamilton to just one.
The Comets will next play at Palisades High in a league game Thursday, April 3rd.
