In response to long-term needs that surfaced in the aftermath of the December tsunami in the Indian Ocean, several Santa Monica businesses are joining in “Tsunami Relief Weekend,” Saturday through Monday, January 28th to 30th, an effort to raise funds for organizations providing assistance to the victims of the natural disaster.

Businesses taking part in the relief effort and their participation level are:

– A/X Armani Exchange, (310) 899-4474, 1322 Third Street Promenade — $20 from the sale of every limited-edition T-shirt will go to benefit the American Red Cross Tsunami disaster relief efforts;

– Above the Fold (newsstand), (310) 393-2690, Third Street Promenade at Arizona Avenue — ten percent of sales go to the American Red Cross;

– Borders Books & Music, (310) 393-9290, 1415 Third Street Promenade — 15 percent of sales to nonprofit organizations providing relief aid;

– California Karate Club, (310) 393-3556, 1207 Seventh St. — five percent of gross to American Red Cross;

– Central Pharmacy, (310) 395-3294, 327 Wilshire Blvd. — ten percent of sales to nonprofit organizations providing relief aid. (Friday, January 28th only);

– Curves (fitness), (310) 917-1371, 1335-B Fourth Street — $10 from each new enrollment will be sent to Unicef;
