The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors has launched a Facebook fan page, using the highly popular social media site as another way to communicate with the public interested in Los Angeles County beaches and Marina del Rey.

Facebook users can follow Beaches and Harbors fan pages for news, view photos and start discussions with other followers.

Department officials say the speed and efficiency of social media communications provides the added benefit of instantaneous updates in situations that benefit from up-to-the minute information like emergencies, natural disasters, and calendar edits for commission meetings and special events.

Social networking sites like Facebook allow for two-way interaction with citizens by providing a platform to gather feedback, encourage participation, and support the department’s goal of providing communications in an easy format for the public to find and use, according to the department.

To become a “fan” of Beaches and Harbors on Facebook, search for “Beaches and Harbors Los Angeles County” when utilizing the site, or visit the department’s Web site at www.marinadelrey.lacounty.gov/ and click on the Facebook link for immediate access to the portal.
