CA/Boom II, a festival of cutting edge contemporary architectural design, is returning to Santa Monica for a second year.
The festival has four days of events planned at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 1855 Main St., Santa Monica.
An opening night party is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28th. The expo itself, along with special home tours and panel discussions, is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29th; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30th; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 31st.
Tickets are $18 per day and $40 for opening night. Home tour passes are $75 per day or $195 for a three-day pass.
CA/Boom II focuses on hot topics by hot names in the world of architecture and design.
Glen Irani Architects will be debuting a residence that Irani himself designed. SH_Arc Studio will debut its remodeled design of architect Richard Neutra’s 1956 Troxell residence, which Neutra originally built.
Panel discussion will include a talk on prefabricated homes by Michael Sylvester.
Popular exhibitors include landscape designer Big Red Sun, furniture and lighting designer Christopher Gay, and Gregg Fleischman Studio.
Also, the festival will feature the world debuts of some recently completed design projects including those by PIE Furniture, Water Studio, Clay & Wood, Aero 11 Design and Twentieth Contract.
Panel discussion topics for Friday, July 29th, include “Sustainable Building Practices: New Technology;” “Hospitality Design;” “The Green Revolution: Style or Substance;” “Breaking Ground: New Directions in Landscape Architecture;” and “Design Authenticity in a Napster Age.”
Panel discussion topics for Saturday, July 30th, include “The State of Pre-Fab,” “The Challenges and Rewards of Restoring an Architectural Icon and Maintaining It For Generations to Come,” “The Value of Architecture: Does Good Design Pay Off,” “Contemporary Spa Design,” and “Beyond the Single Family Home – New Concepts for Urban Living.”
Home tours will depart by bus every 12 to 15 minutes during the expo hours.
The opening night party with the show’s exhibitors and designers includes DJs and an open bar.
