The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will be offering a boating skills and seamanship course at the Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina del Rey beginning Sept. 7 and ending Oct. 26.
This eight-week course is
designed for both power and sail boaters. The classes will be held every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Additionally, a lines and knots workshop (included with the course) will begin at 7 p.m. starting with the second class.
The boating skills and seamanship course can be useful for both the experienced and the novice boater, according to the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The topics include boat handling, safety equipment, boating rules, navigation, water and weather, and federal and state boating requirements.
Anyone interested in learning or expanding their knowledge of boating is encouraged to enroll. Upon passing an examination at the conclusion of the course, students will receive a certificate which is accepted by many boaters’ insurance companies for a discount.
The fee for this eight week course is $80. All participants in the class will receive their own
boating skills and seamanship textbook featuring over 400 pages of fully illustrated, essential boating information. A discounted course fee is available if registered before Sept. 1.
