Authorities have identified a body found floating in Santa Monica Bay as that of a 31-year-old West Hollywood man who jumped off the Venice Pier hours after local Fourth of July celebrations were held.

The county coroner’s office confirmed that the body of Brian Patrick Dunn was found Sunday morning, July 11. Toxicology tests were pending.

County lifeguards said that a fisherman discovered the body floating about 300 yards offshore of Santa Monica shortly after 8 a.m.

The Coast Guard Los Angeles-Long Beach Sector had initiated a search after Dunn was last seen jumping from the Venice Pier at approximately 2 a.m. July 5. He was reportedly intoxicated and not wearing a lifejacket at the time, according to the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard, Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Division and Los Angeles Police Department searched the area extensively the following day on the water and from the air.

The search was suspended after a 41-foot Coast Guard utility boat, an 87-foot Coast Guard patrol boat and an MH-65C Dolphin helicopter found no trace of Dunn in the surrounding area.
