The Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica and the social networking site KooDooZ held the “Night without a Home” event Aug. 27 to raise awareness about youth homelessness.

The event at the club’s main facility on Lincoln Boulevard was organized to inform members of the community about everyday actions they can take to help those homeless in need.

Special guest speaker Jonas Corona, 7, shared how he has assembled 1,500 backpacks filled with supplies through his organization “Love in The Mirror” for youths struggling with homelessness.

Participants assembled care packages with handmade cards and blankets that were donated to the Los Angeles Youth Network (LAYN), which serves local homeless children. Ehecatl Rojas of the youth network also discussed some of the characteristics of children in distress and made suggestions for ways to support these vulnerable youths.
