THE VENICE HIGH SCHOOL football team, cheerleaders and drill team were served a pre-game meal as part of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice’s annual “Go Gondos” event Nov. 2.

The Venice High School Gondoliers football team was treated to a meal courtesy of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice prior to the Gondoliers’ convincing 30-7 home victory against Fairfax High Nov. 2.
The club served the Gondo football players, as well as cheerleaders and drill team as part of its annual “Go Gondos” pre-game meal in the gym at the Boys & Girls Club of Venice.
The club and school have a long-standing partnership and several members of the football team grew up playing sports at the club, said Erikk Aldridge, executive director of the club. Currently, the club runs several of the school’s after-school programs, including tutoring, drill team, cheerleading, and CAHSEE Prep, among others.
“We deeply value our relationship with Venice High School,” said Aldridge. “We see the players each Friday scurrying through the neighborhood eating fast food, and see this as a great way to show the administration, coaches, players and the members of cheer and drill that we are proud of them and support their efforts.”
Several local businesses donated the food and beverages for the event, including, Cantalini’s Salerno Beach in Playa del Rey, Venice Ale House and Sonrise Westside Church. In addition, several members of the community made monetary donations in support of the activity.
The club provides free membership to all Venice High students and over the years has provided tens of thousands of dollars in college scholarships to Venice High graduates.
After going 8-2 in the regular season with an undefeated 6-0 Western League record, the Gondoliers will host Sylmar High in the first game of the Los Angeles City Section playoffs at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.
