Teams from the Boys & Girls Club of Venice took home two second place trophies and one third place trophy at the fourth annual Los Angeles Triple Play Basketball Tournament earlier this month.
Nearly 500 youths from local Boys & Girls Clubs competed in the tournament held at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. A total of 24 Los Angeles area clubs entered two girls and two boys teams in the competition.
The Boys & Girls Club of Venice’s girls team for grades 5-8 and boys team for grades 9-12 each finished in second place, while the boys team for grades 5-8 captured third place.
The event was made free to clubs through sponsorships provided by Coca-Cola as part of its Live Positively platform, which works to make a positive difference in the lives of consumers in the communities where they live, work and play.
“We thank Coca-Cola, Anthem Blue Cross Foundation and Ralphs for continuing to make this program available to our local clubs,” said Jim Ventress, L.A. County Alliance chair of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “The annual Triple Play Basketball Tournament is about more than basketball. The tournament provides a forum for us to teach our kids healthy habits that they can then share with their friends and family at home and carry into adulthood.”
