Del Rey’s Broadway Gymnastics girls teams Levels 4 to 8 have completed their spring season, in which they were in five competitions and won five first place team championship trophies.

Throughout the season, the individual athletes were awarded 18 all-around gold, silver and bronze medals, over 40 event gold medals and 30 silver and bronze event medals.

For the second year, Broadway Gymnastics Level 8 Team won first place at the Surf City Classic Competition in Huntington Beach.

The Level 8 team includes three gymnasts from Santa Monica — Ava Hulsman, Sonya Meraz and Harper Miller.

Hulsman won first place All-Around, first on Vault and Bars, tied for first on Floor and won second on Beam.

Meraz won second All-Around and first on Beam and Miller won third All-Around and tied for first place on Floor.

Krista Knighton, a Level 7 gymnast from Santa Monica, placed first on Beam.

All of Broadway’s Level 8 gymnasts qualified to Region 1 Championships, which were held in Long Beach.

Hulsman was awarded the Gold Medal Championship on Vault and Meraz won second All-Around and second on Beam.

Also, Broadway’s Level 5 and Level 8 Teams won two first place trophies at the 2008 Black Diamond Winter Classic in Park City, Utah. Hulsman won first All-Around and on Vault, Bars and Floor and second on Beam. Meraz won second All-Around and first on Beam scoring a 9.9, an almost perfect score. Miller won third on Bars and second on Floor.

Broadway’s Level 5 Team won the first five All-Around awards. Evan Pakshong of Mar Vista won first All-Around, first on Bars and second on Beam and Floor. Alessandra Marenzi of Santa Monica placed third All-Around, and first on Beam.

Madison Weitz of Mar Vista won fourth All-Around, second on Bars, third on Beam and fourth on Floor. Elisheva Eckhaus, a Level 5 gymnast of Playa del Rey, also scored above a 9.0 on Beam and Floor.

Broadway’s Level 4 and Level 5 Teams each won the First Place Team Championship Trophy at the Dreams of Gold Competition in March.

From the Level 4 Team, Ari Brown of Mar Vista won First Place All-Around, first on Vault and Floor and second on Beam. Seanna Duffy-Reddy of Venice won second All-Around, first on Beam and Floor and second on Bars. Valerie Frechette-Coculuzzi of Marina del Rey placed third on Vault.

Broadway’s Level 5 Team won the first seven All-Around Awards. Madison DeYoung, a Level 5 gymnast of Santa Monica, won First Place All-Around and won first place on every event. Pakshong placed second All-Around, second on Bars, third on Vault and tied for second on Beam with Eckhaus. Chloe Meshel-Wood, a Level 6 gymnast of Santa Monica, won first place on Beam and Floor. Caterina Kachadoorian of Santa Monica, Sydney Freiden of Westchester and Angela Lisovsky of Venice were also contributors to the Level 5 winning team.

The Level 4s finished their spring season at the 2008 Cash Bash in Culver City. Reddy won second overall and on Beam and Floor and tied for second on Vault with Anna Pack of Santa Monica.

“I am proud to have such successful gymnastics teams,” said Mary Cates, founder of Broadway Gymnastics. “The gymnasts and coaches love the sport, remain dedicated to training 12 months a year and their achievements are well-deserved.”
