Kentwood Elementary School will host a series of campus tours beginning later this month for parents and community members who are interested in learning more about the Westchester school.
The tours will begin at 9 a.m. and will be held on Thursdays, February 25th, March 18th, April 22nd and May 20th at the school, 8401 Emerson Ave., Westchester.
The events will address school highlights such as the 42-point increase in Academic Performance Index (API) score last year to a new high of 859 points.
Kentwood Elementary was named by California Business for Education Excellence to its 2009 honor roll and also earned special recognition from California Department of Education Superintendent Jack O’Connell for its 100-percent participation in the Governor’s Get Fitness program, school officials note.
As a member of the Loyola Marymount University Family of Schools and a partner in the iDesign program, Kentwood has been the beneficiary of over 100 college student tutors and volunteers in recent years. The school has also been the recipient of new computers and additional resources in the training of art, officials said.
“This is the result of a combined effort from the students, teachers, administration and parents – all the stakeholders in our wonderful school,” Principal Jean Pennicooke said. “We will continue to strive for more.”
Parents who are new to the Westchester neighborhood or interested in what the local elementary school has to offer are encouraged to visit during the tours.
