Woodlawn Cemetery and Mausoleum, 1847 14th St. in Santa Monica, is displaying a 12-foot Pinus halepensis living holiday “Tree of Life” in the lobby of the mausoleum during the holiday season.
The purpose of the tree is to allow individuals and families the opportunity to visit the mausoleum and to hang an ornament on the tree in memory of a loved one who has passed away.
The ornaments are available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, through Sunday, December 23rd.
The cemetery will provide the ornaments, which can be personalized. At the end of the holiday season, the tree will be planted on the grounds of the cemetery in memory of individuals who have passed away.
The holiday season can be a very difficult time for many people who have experienced the death of a loved one. In an effort to make this time a little bit more bearable and offer hope for the future, cemetery staff said they would like to extend an invitation to the community to participate in the Tree of Life program.
Additionally, a complimentary booklet entitled “Thoughts for the HolidaysÖFinding Permission to Grieve” will also be distributed.
