First Lutheran School of Venice is hosting an open house and book fair from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 23rd to introduce prospective students in kindergarten through eighth grade and their parents to the school’s educational environment.

The event will kick off with two children’s book authors, Stephen Cook and Maureen McGrath, discussing what inspired them to become authors as well as what inspired their books.

Cook is the author/illustrator of “Day Out With Daddy,” a comical picture book told from the perspective of a child.

McGrath is the author/illustrator of “Spunky’s Special Friend,” which shows how differences can bring people together. She is working on her second children’s book and a spiritual book.

Guests will have the chance to experience a day in the life of a First Lutheran student and meet teachers, the principal and current school parents.

Afterwards, the authors will read to the children and invite them to create art projects related to their books, while parents are invited to tour the campus.

First Lutheran School of Venice is at 815 Venice Blvd. in Venice.
