“And Awaaay We Go To Wonderland,” a family theater musical mixing ten classic fairy tales into one performance, will return with matinee performances at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, December 26th and 27th at the Santa Monica Playhouse, 1211 Fourth St., Santa Monica.
The interactive show attempts to turn some favorite stories upside down, backwards, sideways and every which way in between, a playhouse spokesperson said. “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Hansel and Gretel” are among the fairy tales merged together in “And Awaaay We Go To Wonderland.”
The musical is written and directed by Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie, with words and music by Rudie and Matthew Wrather and George J. Vennes III as production stage manager.
The cast of Actors’ Repertory Theatre members includes Nima Ghassemian, Cydne Moore and Tim Chadwick as “Lester the Jester.” Set design is by James Cooper and costumes are by award-winning designer Ashley Hayes.
The Santa Monica Playhouse Family Theatre Musical Matinee Series show takes audiences on a musical journey to determine the fate of a host of favorite fairytale characters. The performance features songs, audience participation, solving riddles, predicting the future, and a mini language lesson.
Tickets cost $10.50 for children 12 and under and $12.50 for adults. For tickets, the playhouse box office at (310) 394-9779 ext. 2.
