Former Marina del Rey resident Col. Ralph ìBudî Vandervort, a veteran of three wars who previously served as dock master at the California Yacht Club, died April 9th. He was 89.
Born December 12th, 1919, Vandervort grew up in Southern California, graduating from Beverly Hills High School and Oregon State University.
As a U.S. Army officer, he participated in the Normandy invasion in Europe during World War II. After the war Vandervort continued his military career, serving in both the Korea and Vietnam wars.
Vandervort retired from the military in Washington, D.C., where he held numerous government positions until he returned to California in 1977.
He lived in Marina del Rey for 30 years and served as the California Yacht Club dock master until his retirement in 1995.
Bud is survived by his sons Ralph ìDutchî and John Vandervort, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
