The Boys & Girls Club of Venice has awarded $40,000 in scholarships to its club members who are entering either two-year colleges or four-year universities in the fall through a variety of club scholarship programs.

The scholarships are supported solely through the contributions of individual donors and supporters of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice.

The winners of the Wise Family Foundation Scholarship, which annually awards four renewable $2,000 scholarships each year to club members, are Xiaoxiong Xiong of Venice High School who is attending UCLA; Abram Summers of Ánimo Venice Public Charter High School who is attending UCLA; Alyssa Gasca of Venice High School who is attending Cal State University-Long Beach; and Christopher Rojas of Ánimo Venice Public Charter High School who is attending Santa Monica College.

The Wise Family Foundation has committed to $130,000 in college scholarships to 18 club alums over the last four years, club officials said.

The David C. Mandell “In His Footsteps” Scholarship foundation plans to provide two $500 college scholarships in honor of the founder and first executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Venice. Angelique Paul of Venice High School and Devyn Williams of Ánimo Venice High School have been selected as the 2011 recipients.

Paul also received the Ella Fitzgerald Foundation Scholarship, which targets high school graduates who start in the community college system.

The club additionally awarded scholarships to the winner and finalists of the Youth of the Year program, including 2011 Youth of the Year Rojas and finalists Paul and Xiong.
