A county recreational vehicle park at Dockweiler State Beach on the southern part of the Playa del Rey beach will be closed until Memorial Day for needed upgrades and renovations, according to Dusty Crane, Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors spokesperson.
The Dockweiler RV park on Vista del Mar between Imperial Highway and Grand Avenue was closed for renovations Monday, December 6th.
The 118-space park has been open since 1982, but upgrades are needed, Crane said. The last major renovations were done in the late 1980s, she said.
“It’s been quite a few years since we’ve gone in there,” Crane said. “It’s getting pretty beat up.”
The county will upgrade the RV park by replacing restrooms, redoing parking surfaces, improving picnic areas and installing utility hookups in the more than 30 spaces of the back row, she said.
The RV park upgrade work is part of a larger renovation project at Dockweiler Beach.
The Department of Beaches and Harbors may also add an on-site manager at the park for more “personalized management,” she said.
The manager would handle various responsibilities, including registrations and renovations.
The closest RV parks to Dockweiler State Beach are in Malibu and at Shoreline Drive in Long Beach.
January is typically the month with the lowest occupancy rate at the RV park and the county may close the park each January for maintenance, Crane said.
