On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, the Electric Lodge Performing & Visual Arts Center in Venice will be transformed into a microcosm of old world teas and flavors, celebrating England and its cultural influences.

The ninth annual Kulov’s Valentine Tea Festival will include all things British beginning at 2 p.m., with a twist on Alice In Wonderland ñ from fresh contemporary art to the refinements of the traditional tea party.

“Every year around Valentine’s Day we host a cultural event honoring a country with a strong tea-drinking tradition,” says event producer Kulov. “Last year, we celebrated China, the years before that, Japan and India.”

The evening will culminate in a musical performance of Alice & Her Wonderful Tea Party at the Santa Monica Playhouse at 6:30 p.m.

The Santa Monica Playhouse is at 1211 Fourth St., Santa Monica. Information, (310) 394-9774.

Those who attend can play with the interactive displays, marvel at the art, munch on scones and cucumber sandwiches and even go down a rabbit hole or two.

For those who want to make a day ñ or evening ñ of it, the event is within walking distance of Valentine’s Day shopping beforehand and an excellent choice of restaurants for dinner afterwards, Kulov said.

“The venue is in a wonderful part of Venice, just off Abbot Kinney Boulevard,” Kulov noted. “With so much to discover, people come from all over Los Angeles, as well as from out of state, spending many happy hours exploring the neighborhood.

“One of the goals of our tea festivals, in fact, is to generate curiosity and good will that extend into the community at large. We look forward to seeing you there.”
