The third edition of this summer’s concert series at Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey will feature “An Evening at the Opera” Thursday, July 23rd.
The Marina del Rey Summer Symphony and its Music Director and Conductor Frank Fetta welcome finalists from the Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition to a performance of arias and duets including those by Verdi, Puccini, Delibes, Tchaikovsky, Rossini, Donizetti, Korngold and Bernstein.
Featured at the event are sopranos Julianna Di Giacomo and Audrey Elizabeth Luna, tenor Gregorio Gonz·lez, and baritone Jordan Shanahan.
“An Evening at the Opera” will be presented at 7 p.m. at Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey. The Marina del Rey Summer Concerts are presented free to the public.
Opera performers include Julianna Di Giacomo, Audrey Elizabeth Luna, Gregorio Gonz·lez and Jordan Shanahan. Di Giacomo hails from Santa Monica and, among many honors, she recently made a successful debut at La Scala in Milan. Luna has starred in coloratura roles at numerous opera houses and festivals throughout the nation and in Italy.
Gonz·lez has recently completed a three-year residency at the Los Angeles Opera, where he created the roles of Count Obolenski and Aveev in the world premiere of Nicholas and Alexandra. Shanahan has recently appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in its productions of Satyagraha by Philip Glass and Dr. Atomic by John Adams.
Founded 37 years ago by the late Loren L. Zachary and the competition’s current director, Nedra Zachary, the annual Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition for Young Opera singers is considered one of the world’s most prestigious singing competitions, drawing the finest young singers in the nation — many of them already on the rosters of major opera companies.
