Daniel Kerr, a Santa Monica resident, tied for second place in the International Young Physicists Tournament, held earlier this month in Switzerland.

The tournament is a theoretical and experimental research-based competition that features teams of high school students from 23 countries.

The competition requires each national team to research 17 physics problems for one year and then present and defend their findings at the international tournament.

The U.S. team competed against Germany and Belarus in the final round of competition.
