Westchester resident and former Westchester honorary mayor David A. Herbst has been named senior vice president, general manager of the Los Angeles office MWW Group, the nation’s 11th largest public relations agency.

Herbst succeeds Harvey Englander, who will leave the firm next month.

Herbst is well known in the Westchester community as a community leader.

While still a student at Loyola Marymount University, he was credited with organizing a visit to the Westchester campus by former President George H.W. Bush.

At 27, he became president of the then-Westchester-LAX Chamber of Commerce. He later was named honorary mayor when the chamber became the Westchester/LAX-Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce. He is also a chamber director.

He has also been an active supporter of the Westchester Family YMCA and serves on the Y advisory board. He is a director of the William H. Hannon Foundation.

He is also El Segundo Chamber of Commerce president and serves as a member of the Los Angeles Convention and Exhibition Center Authority Commission.

Before joining MWW, Herbst led his own public affairs firm for five years, specializing in political campaigns, real estate, nonprofit and corporate consulting.

He served on the consulting team that helped secure Phase I entitlements for Playa Vista in 1993.

Herbst served as director of corporate relations for Mercury Air Group, Inc., an international aviation services company headquartered in the Del Rey area.

Herbst later served as vice president of corporate affairs at Playa Vista, where he created and managed the development’s corporate affairs division, encompassing the disciplines of public affairs, governmental affairs, environmental and community affairs, as well as its emerging business programs.

Prior to joining MWW, Herbst was executive vice president of American Standard Development Company in Redondo Beach.

Herbst joined the MWW Los Angeles office as senior vice president in August of 2001.

“David has played an instrumental role in helping to grow our business and build MWW into a true public affairs powerhouse in Southern California,” said Michael W. Kempner, president and chief executive officer of MWW Group.

“David’s drive, skill and leadership abilities will be central to the next phase of growth for our Los Angeles office. He is among the most influential and respected practitioners in the region and is the perfect man to succeed Harvey Englander, who had led our Los Angeles team well since 1999.”

MWW Group is active in consumer marketing, corporate communications, investor relations, public affairs and government relations, and healthcare.

Headquartered in East Rutherford, New Jersey, MWW has seven full-service offices representing national and multinational companies.
