Dawn Smith has been appointed as the new in-house public relations manager of the Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Smith will be responsible for establishing all international and domestic public relations goals for the destination, as well as strategies and tactics in support of Santa Monica’s publicity outreach.

Her responsibilities will include coordinating media interviews and press visits to secure public relations coverage for Santa Monica, as well as preparing and managing the dissemination of press releases and articles to members of the local and international press.

Additionally, Smith will oversee the representation of Santa Monica’s image and branding to the media and the community.

“I’m so happy to be a spokesperson for this exciting community,” said Smith of her new appointment. “I’ve always enjoyed spending time in Santa Monica and now I get to tell people around the world what an amazing place this is.”

Prior to coming to Santa Monica, Smith worked as a public relations account executive at the Hoyt Organization managing publicity for several national accounts.

Smith also has a background in broadcast journalism, including freelance reporting for KVIE-TV in Sacramento, as well as anchoring for ABC affiliate WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

“We are confident that Dawn’s experience will help bring Santa Monica to the forefront of the global press,” said Misti Kerns, Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau president and chief executive officer.

Smith is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and currently resides in West Los Angeles. She is a graduate of San Francisco State University, with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.
