Approximately 50 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a ruptured hose onto the streets near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Saturday, April 5th, fire officials said.
Los Angeles city firefighters were called to a Budget Rent A Car facility in the 9700 block of South Airport Boulevard at 11:38 a.m. regarding a fuel spill in the area, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
A hose from a tank had ruptured, spilling diesel fuel onto the street, Humphrey said.
Approximately 15 to 20 gallons of the fuel may have spilled into a storm drain, he said.
The state Department of Fish and Game and other environmental agencies were notified of the incident as part of protocol.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Health Hazardous Materials Division also responded and declared the site safe to reoccupy, Humphrey said. Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately 40 minutes.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
