A notice of preparation of a draft environmental impact report (EIR) has been issued for the proposed Interim Taxiways Safety Improvement Project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The proposed project would enhance safety on the North Airfield while maintaining airfield operational efficiency, airport officials said.
Through the project, all arrivals at Runway 6L-24R would be able to cross adjacent Runway 6R-24L farther down the runway, in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) procedures, rather than using existing Taxiways Y and Z, airport officials noted.
The proposed project is designed to create high-speed exits on the runway that would allow pilots to see better when crossing it.
The report is available for public viewing under the tab “Interim Taxiways Safety Improvement Project” at www.ourlax.org/.
A copy of the draft EIR notice is also posted in the office of the Los Angeles city clerk.
For more information or to request a copy of the notice, call Los Angeles World Airports Facilities Planning Division at (424) 646-5180.
