The County of Los Angeles intends to adopt a mitigated negative declaration (MND) for the Villa Venetia Apartments in Marina del Rey and is seeking public comment on a recirculated draft MND that is due by 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4.
The draft MND and initial study were previously released for public review from April 12 to May 12. The draft environmental review concludes that the project, as modified with changes and conditions attached to the initial study, will not have a significant effect on the environment.
The project site is at 13900 Fiji Way in Marina del Rey, on Parcel 64. The draft MND is based on the evaluation of the potential environmental impacts of the applicant’s proposed rehabilitation of the existing 224-unit Villa Venetia apartment complex, which will entail rehabilitation of the exterior of all four apartment structures and the interior of the residential units, modification of existing landscape, reconfiguration of on-site parking, and enhancement of existing active and passive on-site recreational facilities.
These improvements will not increase the internal floor area, the number of existing rental units at the site, or increase the height of any structure, according to the developer. None of these improvements will change the intensity of use or density of the existing apartment complex.
The county Small Craft Harbor Commission will consider the option to amend the lease agreement at its Wednesday, August 11 meeting.
Copies of the draft MND and initial study are available for public review through Wednesday, August 4 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday (closed on Fridays) in the offices of the Department of Beaches and Harbors administration building at 13837 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey.
Selected materials are also available on the Department of Regional Planning Web site at http://planning.lacounty.gov/case/ and on the Beaches and Harbors Web site at
The materials are also available at the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library, 4533 Admiralty Way.
