Egg hunts and childrenís events will be scattered throughout the local area at churches and community centers as Easter approaches. Also, an Easter brunch cruise departing from the Marina has been planned.
WESTCHESTER PARK ó Known for its generous quantity of eggs strewn about Westchester Park, the fifth annual Eggstravaganza for children has been organized by Hope Chapel del Rey.
The event, for children ages two through 12, features a hunt for 30,000 candy-filled eggs (up from 20,000 two years ago).
Gates open at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7th, at Westchester Park, 7000 Manchester Ave., Westchester. Participation is free. Children will be separated into age brackets for the egg hunt.
In addition to the egg hunt, the event will feature live music by the Windy Ridge Bluegrass Band and the Hope Chapel Band. There will be moon bounces, a petting zoo, pony rides, games, fun booths, family photos, hot dogs and ice cream. Los Angeles Fire Department fire engines and Los Angeles Police Department K-9 Units will have on-site displays and will greet children.
To conclude the event, there will be a free drawing for a massive Easter basket and other prizes.

VENICE BEACH EGG HUNT ó A Spring Egg Hunt for children has been organized by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. A spectrum of colorful eggs will be hidden throughout the Venice Beach Recreation Center lawn and the surrounding area for kids to comb through.
The city-sponsored egg hunt is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7th, at the childrenís playground at the Venice Beach Recreation Center, 1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice. Admission is free.
Different age brackets of children will hunt for the eggs at different times, including ages three and under at 10:30 a.m.; ages four and five at 11 a.m.; ages six through eight at 11:30 a.m.; and ages nine through 11 at noon.
Peter Cottontail will make an appearance at the event and will be available for photos with children. In addition, the event will include face painting and a magic show.

OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN CHURCH ó An Easter egg hunt with activities for children and families is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7th, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7605 77th St., Westchester. Admission is free. This is the seventh year the church has held an egg hunt.
Afternoon fun will include arts and crafts, a holiday movie screening, a moon bounce, balloons and refreshments.

PETER RABBIT DAY ó The 15th annual Peter Rabbit Day organized by the Santa Monica Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) is scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7th, at Douglas Park, 1155 Chelsea Ave., Santa Monica. Admission is free.
Volunteers are currently needed and should arrive at the park at 7:30 a.m.
Five 20-minute egg hunts will be held throughout the morning for ages one to three; four to six; seven to nine; ten to 12; and concluding with an all-ages free-for-all.
Peter Rabbit will hang out with the children throughout the morning, and the event will include family activities such as face painting, Easter egg dyeing, games and caricature drawings.
In past years, representatives from the Santa Monica Police and Fire Departments have participated in the event by giving safety awareness demonstrations and tours of officials vehicles.

PENMAR EASTER EVENT ó Penmar Recreation Center will host a city-sponsored egg hunt in the Oakwood area of Venice. The Penmar Easter Eggstravaganza is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7th, at the Penmar Recreation Center, 1341 Lake St., Venice. Admission is free.
Egg hunt start times are 10 a.m. for toddlers through six-year-olds; and 11 a.m. for seven-to-ten-year-olds. Arts and crafts and games will be a part of the event, as well as an appearance by the Easter Bunny, organizers say.

MAR VISTA EGG HUNT ó A Spring Eggstravaganza egg hunt organized by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Mar Vista Park at the Mar Vista Recreation Center, 11340 Woodbine Ave., Mar Vista. Admission is free.
An egg hunt for ages four and under starts at 11 a.m., followed by a puppet show at noon, an egg hunt for ages five through seven years at 12:45 p.m., and an egg hunt for ages eight through ten at 1:30 p.m.
The event will also include games, prizes and an appearance by Mr. Bunny.

EASTER BRUNCH CRUISE ó An Easter Champagne Brunch aboard a yacht has been planned for Sunday, April 8th, boarding at 11:30 a.m. at 13755 Fiji Way, Marina del Rey.
Hornblower Yachts has organized the event that will include a two-hour cruise around the Marina Harbor, a brunch buffet, free-flowing champagne and live entertainment. The cruise is from noon to 2 p.m. Participation is $54 per person.
