Local community groups, churches and recreation centers from Westchester to Santa Monica have planned egg hunts and other children’s events to celebrate Easter weekend.

A boat cruise and musical entertainment are also planned in the local area.

WESTCHESTER RECREATION CENTER — Hope Chapel del Rey hosts its third annual Egg’stravaganza egg hunt from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26th, at the Westchester Recreation Center, 7000 Manchester Ave., Westchester.

Admission is free. Hot dogs and soda are free for egg hunters.

Featured activities include hair and face painting, pony rides and a petting zoo, moon bouncing and an egg hunt with 20,000 candy-filled eggs.

The egg hunters will be sent out in four different age groups — age two to four, five to seven, eight to ten, and 11 and 12.

Representatives from police and fire departments also plan to take part in the event and to show children police cars and fire trucks.

“As establishments in this community, we wanted to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for parents and their children that reflect the values of the holiday,” said Mark Koukl, pastor of Hope Chapel del Rey.

OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN CHURCH — The fifth annual Easter egg hunt and other events for children and families are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26th, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 6705 77th St., Westchester.

The egg hunt begins at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

Other children’s activities include face painting, arts and crafts, a movie, moon bouncing, balloons and refreshments.

MARY HOTCHKISS PARK — The Santa Monica Junior Chamber of Commerce (Santa Monica Jaycees) hosts its 13th annual Peter Rabbit Day at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 26th, at Mary Hotchkiss Park, 2302 Fourth Street, Santa Monica.

Admission is free.

Activities include an egg hunt with thousands of candy-filled eggs for children 12 and under, face painting, games, clowns, costumed characters and an appearance by Peter Rabbit.

Representatives from the Santa Monica police and fire departments will present safety demonstrations and showcase their public safety vehicles.

“Peter Rabbit Day is the Santa Monica Jaycees’ first youth-focused community service activity of 2005, and also one of the most popular and well-received events that the organization puts on annually,” says Carrie Spencer, president of the Santa Monica Jaycees.

The egg hunt for ages four and under begins at 11:30 a.m., ages five to seven at 12:15 p.m., and eight to ten at 12:45 p.m.

Egg hunters should bring their own basket or sack to collect the eggs.

RECREATION CENTER — The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks hosts its annual spring egg hunt activities for children, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26th, at the Venice Beach Recreation Center, 1800 Ocean Front Walk, Venice.

Admission is free.

The egg hunt for children age three and under begins at 10:45 a.m.; age four and five at 11:45 a.m.; six to eight at 12:30 p.m.; and nine to 11 at 1 p.m.
