The Westchester Elks and Santa Monica Elks said they recently delivered more than 1,000 dictionaries to third grade classes in the local communities.

Ray Walton, chairman of the Westchester Elks dictionary program, said the group helped deliver 1,200 dictionaries, including 200 in the first shipment.

The Santa Monica Elks have helped bring 1,500 dictionaries to local third grade classes, said R. A. Pickett, chairman of the Santa Monica program. There has been a record volume of orders for the new dictionary, which identifies President Barack Obama, the Elks noted.

After delivering the dictionaries, Elks members said they give a presentation and give the third-graders tips on ways to use the new dictionaries.
