Michelle Riebeling, Los Angeles World Airports emergency preparedness coordinator, is to be the featured speaker at a community meeting sponsored by Westside Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) in West- chester Tuesday, March 25th.
The meeting is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. in the community room of Los Angeles City Fire Station No. 5, 8900 S. Emerson Ave., Westchester.
The meeting will address topics including how Los Angeles World Airports would cope with a major disaster and how the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) would plan to help. Los Angeles World Airports is the city agency that operates Los Angeles International Airport and three other regional airports.
Riebeling will be joined by an LAFD captain who is an expert in emergency response and who will talk about the department’s plans to assist the airport in the event of an emergency and how civilian volunteers are most likely to be helpful.
CERT is one of several volunteer organizations that assist LAFD. CERT members are trained in emergency first-aid and other emergency skills including fighting small fires, light search and rescue and triage.
CERT classes are free and open to all. The classes are offered year-round at locations throughout the city.
The March 25th meeting is sponsored by Battalion 4 CERT and its partners in Battalions 9 and 18. The three battalions cover a large portion of the Westside, including Mar Vista, Del Rey, Venice, Westchester, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Westwood and West Los Angeles.
