Spring Break Theater Camp is being offered during one-week sessions at the Santa Monica Playhouse, beginning Monday, April 6th, to allow youngsters to explore theater performance.
Three one-week sessions are being offered in order to fit with all school vacation schedules. The first session is scheduled Monday through Friday, April 6th through 10th, and Session II is scheduled April 13th through 17th. A six-day ìCinderella Create-a-Play Workshopî is scheduled April 6th through 11th, in which students create and perform their very own original musical production of the classic fairytale.
All three of these theatre arts sessions meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Instruction is offered in music, dance, make-up, costumes, props, lighting and sound and performance.
Camp participants learn to express themselves creatively, challenge their imaginations, and build self-confidence, while working with professional theater artists and playwrights to create a piece of original theatre that will be presented for friends, family, and the public on the last day of each session, said a playhouse spokeswoman.
ìSanta Monica Playhouse was a turning point in my sonís life. It is the best childrenís workshop Iíve ever seen.î says actress, educator and mother Jill Jaress.
Youngsters will perform their creation on the playhouseís authentically detailed Cinderella set, crafted by award-winning designer James Cooper. Internationally acclaimed costume designer Ashley Hayes will help participants realize their own costume designs.
