The popular winter event series of intimate performances by the hearth, “Fireside at the Miles,” will return to the historic Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica with 16 separate events beginning Friday, Dec. 14 and continuing through Jan. 26.
The series of events features contemporary music, opera, jazz, dance, poetry, beat-boxing, a capella groups and more. All performances take place in the historic Spanish Revival-style playhouse at Christine Reed Park beside the distinctive, rustic fireplace.
During the shows, the usual seating arrangements are replaced with a more intimate setup of couches, coffee tables, candles and an organic tea and snack bar.
Performers will include the Golden State Pops Orchestra, folk musicians David Poe and Amy Raasch, jazz guitarist Scott Detweiler, performance artists String Theory, a capella group Frequency and others.
Doors open at 7:15 p.m., with
performances beginning at 8 p.m. and expected to end by 10 p.m. All events are accessible and youth-friendly.
Kicking off this year’s series are the Scott Detweiler New Orleans Jazz Funksemble Friday, Dec. 14, and Maria Vargo and Friends performing folk music Saturday, Dec. 15.
Admission to all shows is $10 for adults, or $5 for seniors (age 55 and over), students and kids (17 and under). Group rates are available for 10 or more. Treats at the organic beverage and snack bar are available by suggested donation.
The Miles Memorial Playhouse is at 1130 Lincoln Blvd., Santa Monica.
