The 2005 Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade has received its first entries.

The 43rd Annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 10th, with fireworks at 5:55 p.m.

This year’s boat parade theme is “Star Light Star Bright.”

Entrants are signing up to compete for a “Best Overall” prize trip to Tokyo Bay, Japan.

This year, Colonel Glenn Dildy is the parade’s first individual entry representing the military.

When Dildy first arrived in Marina del Rey two years ago, it didn’t take him long to “jump into” the nautical lifestyle.

The U.S. Air Force officer purchased his first boat, a 38-foot Carver aft-cabin motor yacht, and entered the Marina Holiday Boat Parade last year.

“I’d never seen the Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade before entering last year,” said Dildy, who moved to the area to work in the GPS (Global Positioning System) program at the Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo.

Now, after entering for the first time last year, he says he knows what he needs to do to take home a trophy.

“More lights,” said Dildy, who is in the process of finalizing his concept for this year’s entry.

Dildy says his boat will be decorated to show GPS technology safely guiding Santa around the globe as the bearded jolly one makes his rounds on Christmas eve.

Dildy says he plans to have friends and family along for the ride on parade night.

“We’ll first have a cookout,” he said.

Diane Weissburg, owner of Marina del Rey-based River Galley Cruises, is the first “Charter” entry in the 2005 parade.

Weissburg, who is captain of Fantasy I, has won several trophies over the years in numerous prize categories, including “Best Charter,” “Best Overall” and “Best Theme” during the past five years.

“I can’t help it,” said Weissburg about entering the boat parade. “It’s a lot of work, and lights and decorations take over my entire living room.”

A preview parade will start off the boat parade weekend from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, December 9th, in the Marina main channel.

Boat parade entry forms are available and can be downloaded from the boat parade Web site at www.mdrboatparade.org
