A group of 18 volunteers from local communities was honored recently for its role in operating the Flight Path Museum and Learning Center at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The volunteers — residents of Westchester, Playa del Rey, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo and other nearby communities —were saluted during an appreciation dinner at Flight Path in the LAX Imperial Terminal.

Honorees included volunteers who staff the museum’s public galleries as well as those who build exhibits, keep records, prepare for special events and maintain the Flight Path Web site. The Flight Path board of directors hosted the event.

Volunteers honored were Lynne Adelman, John Eckberg and Beverly Migliazzo of Westchester; Robin McNeill and Tim Wagenknecht of Playa del Rey;

Judy Christian, Joyce Coil, Brad Guy and Bob Pehl of El Segundo; Ed Deto of Manhattan Beach; Reni Soukup of Redondo Beach; Ed Crawford of Hawthorne; Duke Ellington of Lomita; Allen Hess of Lawndale; Steve Koyama of West Los Angeles; John Lee of Rosemead; Roger Vorst of Hollywood and Ron Williams of Gardena.

Flight Path president Rowena Ake also paid tribute to the volunteer service of board members Ethel Pattison and William Schoneberger, vice presidents; John Garstka, chief financial officer; Richard Brubaker, treasurer; Julie Judge, corporate secretary; Robert Acherman, Jean-Luc Beghin, Nissen Davis, Seymour Kahn, Lori Keir, Barbara Keller, John Killen, David Lyon, Vincent Migliazzo, Nancy Niles, Bruce Orriss, Fred Reeves and Robert Slusser.

Others recognized were executive director Lee Nichols, director of volunteers Ann Proctor, and airport guides Marilyn Costigan, Eleanor Ginsberg, Marie Happ, Diane Miller, Mimi Silagy and Stephanie Smith.

Flight Path is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in the LAX Imperial Terminal, 6661 W. Imperial Highway, Los Angeles.
