Junior running back Curtis McNeal was a one-man show for Venice High School as he tallied five touchdowns to lead the Gondoliers to a dominating 47-7 Western League victory over the host Westchester High School Comets Friday, October 20th.
It was another impressive night on the field for McNeal, who scored four of his touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of one, two, 47 and two yards.
The performance put the game out of reach for Westchester (2-5, 0-2) by halftime, as the Comets trailed 41-7.
Westchester picked up its only score of the game in the second quarter, when senior quarterback Quintin McMichael threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to senior Tyler Smith.
Venice (5-2, 2-0) got on the scoreboard early with two passing touchdowns by junior quarterback Richard Ragland to James Hood and Quesean Gregory in the first quarter.
McNeal, who finished with 16 carries for 184 yards rushing, added another 55-yard touchdown run in the final quarter.
Venice will next face host Hamilton High School in a key league game at 7 p.m. Friday, October 27th.
The Comets will next play at University High School in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, October 27th.
Despite racking up 425 rushing yards, the host Santa Monica High School Vikings were defeated by defending Ocean League champion Beverly Hills High School in a league game Friday, October 20th.
The Vikings (3-4, 0-2) held a 14-7 led at halftime after scoring a touchdown in both the first and second quarter.
But Beverly Hills added two touchdowns in the third quarter and was able to hold on for victory, even though the Vikings picked up two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Junior Jonathan Dunn led the Santa Monica running attack with 125 yards rushing, but Louis Adeyemi and George Allen weren’t far behind with 105 yards and 103 yards rushing respectively.
Viking junior quarterback Ryan Katz finished 12-of-18 passing for 281 yards and had three touchdowns in the game.
Santa Monica will next host Culver City High School in a league game at Santa Monica College at 7 p.m. Friday, October 27th.
The St. Bernard High School Vikings earned their first victory of the season with a 24-10 Del Rey League win over visiting Bishop Montgomery High School Friday, October 20th.
The Vikings (1-6, 1-1) got on the scoreboard first with a two-yard touchdown run by Walker in the first quarter, but Bishop Montgomery responded with a score in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7 at halftime.
St. Bernard then took control in the second half, as junior quarterback Ryan Simpson scored two running touchdowns to carry his team to victory.
Adam Long finished with 90 yards rushing for the Vikings, who will next play host Bosco Tech High at 7 p.m. Friday, October 27th.
The St. Monica High School Mariners were defeated 42-12 by visiting Santa Clara High School in a non Camino Real League game Saturday, October 21st.
St. Monica (0-7, 0-1) which trailed 28-6 at halftime, picked up its two touchdowns in the second and third quarters.
The team will next face host Cantwell-Sacred Heart High in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, October 27th.
