The Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors has received a $5,000 Public Involvement and Education grant from the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation to assist in clean boating efforts in Marina del Rey.

Such efforts include the 2011 Southern California Dockwalker Trainings, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club, 13589 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

The restoration foundation and Beaches and Harbors will be participating in the training event in conjunction with the Department of Boating and Waterways and the California Coastal Commission’s Boating Clean and Green Program. The free workshop trains volunteers to become “dockwalkers,” conducting face-to-face boater education about environmentally sound boating practices.

The restoration foundation and Beaches and Harbors will also share a booth at the upcoming MarinaFest 2011, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 14, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, when boaters can pick up a free tote bag containing a boater kit and educational materials regarding clean boating practices.
