An auction to raise needed funds for the Venice Public Art Walls near the Boardwalk is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 22nd at the G2 Gallery, 1503 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice.
Due to budget constraints, Los Angeles city funding has been severely reduced for many of the city’s arts programs, says a spokeswoman for In Creative Unity (ICU) Art, an arts management company that oversees the Venice Art Walls.
The arts program issues free permits to artists to paint on the walls.
Los Angeles-based artists are donating original paintings, prints, photography and sculptures to this auction to raise funds for the art wall program.
Although graffiti artists, or artists who paint street-influenced art donate much of the work, there will be pieces from artists who work in a more traditional brush style.
“Come help to preserve this important cultural and historic landmark and the spirit of free expression in Venice,” says Stash Maleski, ICU’s director.
All of the funds raised will go to pay the on-site supervisors who work with the artists at the art walls.
Admission is $10 at the door.
