The Market at Santa Monica Place, offering artisanal foods and a variety of other products, is scheduled to open Friday, May 20 with an entertainment-filled weekend of opening events.

The hand-picked, independently owned shops offer a unique food experience with a collection of organic, artisanal gourmet food and gifts, said officials at Macerich, the parent company of Santa Monica Place.

The Market, located on the rooftop dining deck, features Primi Al Mercato from acclaimed restaurateur Piero Selvaggio, including a retail side – Laboratory di Pasta – and a casual trattoria serving small plates of unusual and creative pastas with fresh sauces, according to Macerich. An on-site pasta maker will be present.

Selvaggio also brings a second eatery to The Market called Norcino, or “The Butcher.” The concept combines charcuterie plates with premium cheeses served in a sushi-inspired fashion. Meat plates will be served separately or can be combined with a selection of assorted cheeses to take home, according to restaurant representatives.

Other purveyors include Beachy Cream, organic ice-cream sandwiches; Benedetta, a fully botanical, farm-sourced skin care company; Röckenwagner Bakery, featuring handcrafted and artisanal baked goods; The Curious Palate, a market, kitchen and café specializing in artisan foods and farm-to-table service; The Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories offering two teaching kitchens and state-of-the-art equipment, with three-and-four-hour classes, chef demonstrations, special events, cookbook signings and community partnerships.

Among other purveyors are Venokado, an eclectic wine shop including a tasting room; Groundwork Coffee Company, a sustainable coffee company that sources and roasts 100 percent organic, “fairly traded” coffee, and offers custom blends; L’Artisan Du Chocolat offering hand-made, gourmet chocolates with natural ingredients; Magical Blooms featuring unique arrangements, floral designs and more; and N’Ice Cream offering more than 85 flavors of organic, free-trade gelato and sorbet.

“We anticipate The Market as a dynamic and welcomed destination to the food landscape on the Westside,” said Michael Guerin, assistant vice president of leasing of Macerich.
