The Trunk Gallery, a new art space in Mar Vista, will present Faux Toes, a group exhibition of black and white photographs, beginning Saturday, Aug. 11 through Sept. 22.
An opening reception is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11 at Trunk Gallery, 12818 Venice Blvd., Mar Vista.
The show aims to explore black and white photography’s potential on aesthetic, technical and conceptual levels, a gallery spokesperson said. Featured in the exhibit is a broad range of innovative photographs that the artists use to reveal the subjective undercurrent that their camera captures, the spokesperson explains.
The artists involved in the exhibition, who use both standard film and digital processes, display work covering a wide range of aesthetics: documentary, narrative, portrait, conceptual, landscape, experimental and installation.
Even with technological innovations, the emotional and creative impact of these photos is still strongly and immediately apparent, the gallery spokesperson said. The photographers use the various formats to their advantage, and the absence of color becomes the primary strength of the works, the spokesperson added.
The gallery is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
