In other high school football games:

The Westchester High School Comets were defeated 35-0 by host Valencia High School in a non-league game Friday, October 10th.

After both teams were unable to score in the first quarter, Valencia bolted ahead with three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 22-0 lead into halftime.

Valencia (4-1) added another touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters to cruise to the shutout victory.

Running back Andre Buford led the Comet offense with 15 carries for 138 yards rushing. Lionel Boyce finished with 15 tackles for the Comet defense.

Westchester (1-4) will open Western League play against University High School at 7 p.m. Friday, October 17th.

After having a bye week following a loss to Oaks Christian High School, the Venice High School Gondoliers (0-5) will begin Western League play against host Hamilton High School at 3 p.m. Friday, October 17th.

St. Bernard High School lost 20-7 to Verbum Dei High School in a non-league game at Centennial High Saturday, October 11th.

Running back Ryan Richard scored on a 74-yard touchdown to give the St. Bernard Vikings (1-4) a first-quarter lead, but Verbum Dei (1-4) held the Vikings scoreless from there to earn the victory.

Richard finished with 14 carries for 101 yards rushing in the game.

The Vikings will open Del Rey League play against host Harvard-Westlake High School at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 18th.

The St. Monica High School Mariners were defeated 17-14 by visiting Villanova Prep in a non-league game Saturday, October 11th.

The defeat came after the Mariners (0-5) lost another close game 20-18 to Chadwick in the previous week.

Running back Hector Santiesteban scored two touchdowns for the Mariners on runs of 45 and 74 yards, but Villanova Prep kicked a late field goal to take the victory. Santiesteban led St. Monica with 28 carries for 198 yards rushing.

St. Monica will begin Santa Fe League play against Bellarmine-Jefferson High of Burbank at 7 p.m. Friday, October 17th.
